Converting an Individual Client to a Company
Section titled “Converting an Individual Client to a Company”When created, a client is either a Company/Organization or a Contact/Individual. A company record has no contacts section. An individual has a single contact (first name, last name, phone, email), with no company name or TIN, and no way to add more.
If that individual later registers a company, you don’t need to create a new record:
- Open the client record in edit mode.
- Click Convert to company.
- Fill in the company details: company name, email, country, legal form, and TIN.
- Save.
The original contact is kept as the company’s contact. As soon as you convert, a Contacts section appears with an Add a contact button; every time you reopen the record in edit mode afterward, this section stays visible — this is the only case where a company record shows contacts. A row that was just added but not yet saved can be removed; a contact that has already been saved cannot be removed from the interface.
Before converting: all documents already linked to this client — quotes and invoices, including ones already issued — will now display the company’s information, since they are generated from the client’s current information. This is the intended behavior when a quote was issued in a person’s name before their company was registered.
- Conversion cannot be undone from the interface.
- The company name must be unique: saving is refused if another client already has the same name.
